ABOUT ME

I am a New York based artist born in Brooklyn, New York and educated at the Fashion Institute of Technology and The City College. During the time between these institutions I gained valuable experience working as an assistant to multiple artists, as well as gallery preparator. This professional experience influenced my creative approach as it was necessary to use unorthodox building methods and procedures in order to complete gallery installations. Spaces were determined with a consideration for emptiness, and projects were always comprised of connected complex elements. Installation challenges were often solved through the observation of simple materials and envisioning how to rework them. All of these concepts are part of my approach to sculpture.

I work with simple objects that are usually overlooked or rejected and combine them with traditional techniques of art making. Part of my process is re-imagining the potential of mostly utilitarian, everyday objects such as floor tiles, broken glass and magazines and how they inform the themes in the artwork. From there, it is integral that I work on understanding each object’s unique qualities and our relationship to them. The intention is to join reality and illusion. By joining the two, the artwork hopefully changes the viewer’s relationship with the materials. It is my belief that a work of art can become an important tool for presenting alternative ways of thinking and understanding the present.
